Serum monitoring of carbamazepine in patients with epilepsy and clinical implications

چکیده

Carbamazepine is a drug with narrow therapeutic range that requires clinical monitoring, since its toxic effects are not easily predictable, and the level can vary. Our study aimed to monitor serum determine concentration/dose relationship of carbamazepine in people epilepsy, analyzing implication. It observed 90.48% volunteers present values (4.3–10.4 mg/L) within (4–12 mg/L); 7.14% supratherapeutic levels (12.7–14.4 mg/L), 2.38% subtherapeutic (0.93 mg/L). The findings indicate negative correlation (r = -0.616; r 2 0.379; p 0.001), between dose (mg/day) ratio (mg/L/mg/day); positive 0.544; 0.296; 0.002), (mg/day)-serum concentration (mg/L). ANOVA Tukey’s test mean difference significant (p<0.05). concluded there linear daily doses concentrations, which should be considered individualize optimize results.

Correlation of serum and salivary carbamazepine concentration in epileptic patients: implications for therapeutic drug monitoring.

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of carbamazepine (CBZ) in saliva is an attractive alternative, because its collection is painless, non-invasive and simpler than drawing blood. Salivary drug levels, also closely reflect the free drug concentration. The aim of the study was to evaluate the suitability of saliva in routine TDM of CBZ in adult epileptic patients. Blood and saliva samples were tak...

Carbamazepine-viloxazine interaction in patients with epilepsy.

In six depressed epileptic patients stabilised on carbamazepine therapy, addition of the antidepressant agent viloxazine (300 mg/day for three weeks) induced a marked (average 55%) increase in steady-state plasma carbamazepine concentration. The concentration of the active metabolite carbamazepine-10,11-epoxide also increased during viloxazine therapy, but to a lesser extent (16%). In three pat...

Monitoring of Serum Nitric oxide in Patients with Acute Leukemia

Nitric oxide (NO) is a molecule required for many physiological functions, produced from L-arginine by NO synthases (NOS). It is a free radical, producing many reactive intermediates that account for its bioactivity. Sustained induction of the inducible form of NOS (iNOS) in chronic inflammation may be mutagenic, through NO-mediated DNA damage or hindrance to DNA repair, and thus potentially ca...
